Symposium 8
Electrochemical Process Engineering and Technology

Sponsoring Division: Division 5, Electrochemical Process Engineering and Technology

The large development of electrolytic processes still requires increased knowledge of the physical phenomena occurring at or close to the electrode interface e.g. surface-species interaction or charge transfers. Selection or design of the suitable electrode materials, with respect to mechanical and catalytic properties, chemical and electrochemical stability is also a key step in the development. In addition, scaling-up of lab discovery to production scale relies upon investigations of flow phenomena, transfer rates, prediction of current and potential distributions, as well as minimization of energy consumption. The issues to be solved and the methods to be developed, concern a broad panel of applications e.g. metallization of polymeric surfaces, electrosynthesis of organic or inorganic compounds, waste treatment, or miniaturization of electrochemical cells. This symposium focuses on the contribution of studies and fundaments on electrochemical engineering allowing to suppress or to minimize these hindrances, in view to sustainable processes in a greener, safer environment.

More precisely, papers are encouraged on - but not limited to:
- New processes in electrometallurgy, with reduced emissions and energy consumption
- Clean electrochemical processes
- Submillimetric electrochemical processes
- Electrochemical separation techniques for synthesis or waste treatment
- Promising routes for water electrolysis
- Novel electrochemical processes for customized applications
- Industrial processes for surface treatment and polymer metallization
